Origin

Native to the coastal districts of central New South Wales. It is mainly found in the Gosford district, but also extends north-westwards to near Singleton in the Hunter Valley and southwards to northern Sydney.

Naturalised Distribution

Naturalised in some parts of central and western Victoria.

Notes

Gosford wattle (Acacia prominens) is an environmental weed in Victoria and is seen as a serious threat to one or more vegetation formations in this state. This species occurs naturally in dry and moist forests, on creek-banks, and on the margins of rainforest in moist protected areas in central New South Wales. It has been widely cultivated in other parts of south-eastern Australia and has developed a reputation as being invasive in Victoria, with high to moderate ecological impacts.

It appears on several local and regional environmental weed lists in Victoria (e.g. in Mornington Peninsula Shire, the Goulburn Broken Catchment, Knox City and Hume City) and is regarded as a major environmental weed in Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve in Frankston City.
