Native to the Indian Sub-continent (i.e. northern India and Nepal).

Notes
This species is regarded as an environmental weed in New South Wales and as a sleeper weed in other parts of south-eastern Australia. Nepal barberry (Berberis floribunda) invades undisturbed forest and forms impenetrable thickets in bushland in the Blue Mountains on the central tablelands of New South Wales. Beucase of this, it appears on the Australian Association of Bush Regenerators (AABR) environmental weed list for the wider Sydney and Blue Mountains region.
