Widely naturalised in the coastal districts of south-eastern Australia (i.e. in south-eastern South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania).
Also naturalised in New Zealand.

Sea wheat-grass (Thinopyrum junceiforme) is regarded as an environmental weed in Tasmania and South Australia.
