Distribution
Dacnusa areolaris is widely distributed in the Palaearctic Region. It has been accidentally introduced to Australia, and it is now known from South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, ACT and New South Wales (Wharton & Austin, 1991). It is not yet known from Southeast Asia; we are including it in the key in case it becomes an introduction in that region.
Hosts
This species is apparently restricted to a few hosts (Griffiths, 1967; Wharton & Austin, 1991). In Australia it has been reared from Chromatomyia syngenesiae.
Biology
Dacnusa species are koinobiont endoparasitoids which oviposit in the egg or larval stages and emerge from the puparia (Wharton, 1997c).
Comments
This is yet to be found in Southeast Asia.
