Thrips of California 2012

Acknowledgements

We would like to thank the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) for funding this project through the Core Issues Competitive Grant Program (UC ANR Core Issues Grant: CIG05-191; Project Area: Biosecurity).

Additionally, we would like to thank the following people personally for their contributions:

Geoff AttardoVince D'AmicoVince D'Amico and Geoff Attardo with Keypoint Graphics, both of whom were entomology graduate students at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with very keen interest and high expertise in computer-generated art, developed the Interactive Thrips Glossary. Geoff and Vince basically developed the glossary from an idea verbally described over the phone. Geoff and Vince made the interactive glossary a reality following this conversation, subsequent iterations and refinements of earlier versions lead to the finished product in its current form.

Christine HoddleChristina Hoddle has been an invaluable field assistant helping collect thrips for this project throughout California. In addition to collecting, Christina kept careful field notes and GPS records of collecting sites, digitally photographed host plants and prepared samples for deposition in the herbarium at the University of California at Riverside.

Jennifer WalkerJennifer Walker patiently helped with photographing numerous slide mounted thrips and image "scrubbing" in photoshop for the fact sheets. These images were added to the image database created by Mound especially for this California-oriented project.

Leigh Pilkington, New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, gave valuable advice and initial assistance with the preparation of electronic fact sheets.
