This species has not been studied by the present authors. Masumoto & Okajima (2006) indicate that the only difference from the common species, M. albus, is the slightly darker body color.

Related and similar species

M. aureus is known only from two females, collected in California. The genus Mycterothrips includes 29 species from many different parts of the world, including both tropical and temperate countries (Masumoto & Okajima, 2006), but with none from Central or South America.
